Colombian Society of Engineers

Company description

The Colombian Society of Engineers is a Non-Profit Corporation of Academic and Scientific Nature dedicated to the improvement of the welfare of Humanity by means of the advancement of the sciences and engineering. It was founded on the 29th of May 1887, and was issued official register of the Colombian Government on 08 May 1896. It was also declared a Consulting Engineering Centre for the Colombian Government by the National Law No. 46 of November, 1904. Its objectives are:

 

  • To provide consulting services to all Government Agencies that require it.
  • To collaborate actively with the programs of like Corporations at the world level and inside Latin America, which perform similar activities related to engineering.
  • To foster research and development in all specialties of engineering and in their relations to other professions.
  • To stand for the defense and Improvement of the profession and the dignity of engineers.
  • To protect and preserve the natural environment.
  • To enforce strict fulfilment of ethical behaviour in engineering and publicize ethical norms of behaviour for engineers


Fields of Activity

As a Consultant Body to the Government of the Republic of Colombia it provides required advice and produce technical concepts on scientific, technical and economic aspects of all areas related to engineering through its Technical secretariat and its Permanent Technical Commissions. The Intervention of the Society in all government matters is considered warranty of ethical and technical impartiality and transparency in the determination of actions which provide beneficial impacts to the country and to the engineering profession.

The Society is formed by Academic members, members at large, honorary permanent members, corresponding members and student members in all specialties of engineering. The Institution covers the entire country, and has affiliated local societies in all 24 states within the country.

Tasks in the SEE HYDROPOWER Project

The major topics of interest for the hydraulic commission of the Colombian Society of Engineers are the transference of technology relating to sedimentation management of reservoirs crucial issue in the safety and productivity of renewable resource systems, and also with advances in watershed management techniques.
